DO TRADITIONAL SEALANTS HAVE A PLACE IN THE NEW SUPER MAGNIFIED WORLD?

Molars have a high risk of developing caries (cavities) in the deep grooves that are present in the chewing surface. Dental Sealants introduced in the early eighties were the first attempt at prevention.

Traditional sealant pictured above is less
than a year old and is failing. This particular sealant failed because micro-contamination during placement.

High (24x) magnification of tooth on left shows decay is worsening.

Retained sealant material is leaking.
Studies have shown failure rates as high as 90% for traditional sealants. In order to resolve this problem Dr. Clark and Dr. Kim have pioneered a very advanced version of this procedure utilizing the microscope along with other new technologies.

Lifetime Cavity Prevention for Children - Pioneered by Micro-Dentists

good tooth Notice how this incredible procedure has produced a natural looking and leak resistant result. The advanced restorative composite is significantly more wear resistant than the traditional sealant material. At ten years we are seeing a 98% success rate. We feel very strongly that this procedure can last a lifetime. The procedure is called a 'Microscope Delivered Minimally Invasive Posterior Composite' or MDMIPC for short.
good tooth Even at 24X magnification the margin (interface between filling material and tooth) is virtually invisible. Although sealants are still the standard of care in this country, "Traditional sealants done without a microscope have fundamental flaws and are temporary in nature. They are inappropriate in a microscope-centered practice."

Aesthetic Dentistry and the Microscope

Over time, the gaps and ledges around dentistry done without the microscope can collect bacteria and stain.

Aesthetic Dentistry and the Microscope

Over time, the gaps and ledges will cause the soft tissue (gums) to be inflamed.
Before

Chronic inflammation and purplish soft tissue were present for years.
After

Porcelain reconstruction done with microscopic precision can yield better aesthetics and healthier tissue.

WHY MICROSCOPIC DENTISTRY IS SO IMPORTANT FOR GINGIVAL HEALTH AND AESTHETICS

Aesthetic micro-plastic gingival (gum tissue) techniques can dramatically transform smiles that have undergone premature aging.

Notice how the re-creation of scalloped tissue contours has eliminated the dark gaps between the teeth along the gumline. Artistic porcelain reconstruction was performed in concert with the micro-plastic gingival procedure.
